DETAIL

I spend countless hours dedicated to pulling out the smallest details to ensure the final product is as close to your original as possible.

QUALITY

I strongly believe in using high quality materials to ensure you will enjoy your piece for many years.

Currently I specialize in graphite, color pencil and pastel - each of which provides a its own distinctive look.

Price Guidance

People are always interested in knowing the cost of pieces. There are a number of factors that contribute to the final cost and I would encourage you to contact me if you are interested in a commission or if you have any special requests. To give you an idea of the costs I've outlined a price guideline based on previous commissions. A 20% deposit is required to secure your spot with the balance due upon completion and approval from you, the client. Postage will be calculated and added at this point.

FAQ

Here is a list of some common questions I get asked. Please feel free to contact me for anything that may be missing.

How good does the photo I send you have to be?

The quality of the photo will directly impact the quality of the result. As an artist I can gleen certain information from poorer quality photo but any details that are missing will likely not be true to the subject and you will get that "something isn't quite right" feeling and certainly don't want you feeling that. It would be ideal if you could provide more than one photo a description of your pet. The more information you can give me, the more accurate I can potray your pet in their potrait.
Larger sized, high resolution digital photos are best as they don't lose details when I zoom in, i.e. 2MB or greater.

Do you have any tips on taking great photos?

For the best results try to take a photo at eye level of your pet/animal and in natural sunlight. The best times to take photos outside is early morning or late afternoon. You want to try to avoid unnatural shadows so try to have the sun over you shoulder and avoid using a flash.

My dog was wearing his collar can you remove it from the final product?

The short answer is, yes I can. However in the interest of accuracy of detail, it is best if you supply me with a photo that best represents what you want the final product to look like. Consider removing collars/tack/accessories before taking a photo of your furry friend if possible.

How close should I get to my subject?

The name of the game is detail. The closer you get to the subject the more likely it is there will be sharp details visible in the photo. Try to frame your subject so they take up about 70-80% of the frame. That, along with the keeping images in the 2MB range should ensure there is adequate quality. If you're still unsure, check out the portfolio section and take a look at the originals there.

I don't like the background in my picture?

That's great - we're more interested in the subject. I tend to remove the background from any picture by default. That said, if you'd like to inlcude a background (either the one in the photo or something different) I can easily add one. If you'd like to get a sense what it will look like I will gladly mock something up for you. Note: I strongly encourage you to consider keeping the background less detailed, blurry or even abstract so as to not detract from the primary subject.

I'd love to have an oil painting done. Do you do that?

Sorry, currently I only work with graphite, color pencils and pastels but I'm always trying new things so stay tuned.

I found a really cool picture online. Can you draw it for me?

It depends, who owns it and are they willing to share with you? I feel it is very important to respect the copyrights of others. If a photo is not in the public domain then you will have to arrange permission from the owner.

How long does it take to get a picture done?

It will very much depend on a couple of factors; 1) how many commissions I have booked in my calendar. 2) how big / detailed the commission is. A typical picture takes 2-3 weeks from the start of your allotted booking.

Do you sell prints as well as originals?

Some of my art will be available as a print in the future. Stay tuned!

Do your drawings include a frame?

I am currently not offering a framing service, however your portrait will arrive mounted and safely packaged.

I don't see any shipping costs?

I explicly don't specify shipping costs because they are dependent on so many variables. I will say that I have no intention of profiting from shipping and will only pass on the expense to you.
